When: Saturday 24 January 2009 at 19:30
Where: St George's Bristol, Bristol
Concert Title: Beethoven Cycle III - Symphonies Nos. 4 and 7
Performers: Bristol Classical Players
Tom Gauterin, conductor
Programme :Ludwig van Beethoven
1:Symphony No 4 in B flat, Op 60
2:Symphony No 7 in A, Op 92
Note: The Bristol Classical Players’ series continues with two of Beethoven’s most exuberant symphonies. The 4th shows Beethoven again stretching boundaries other composers were happy to accept in a work which Sir Roger Norrington called Haydn gone mad, while the 7th has a good claim to be the most joyous of all works. The obsessive rhythmic energy of the 7th led Wagner to refer to is as the apotheosis of the dance and, legend has it, he once danced through the whole of the last movement when it was played to him by Liszt!
