Note: Since their first performance at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester) Haydn festival in 1991, the Marchini String Quartet has established a reputation for thrilling concerts, breadth of repertoire and versatility. All the individual players are members of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and the ensemble gave its Bridgewater Hall debut in 2000 performing the string quartet Voces Intimae by Sibelius, returning in 2002 to perform the Elgar quartet and in 2006 to play the ninth quartet of Shostakovich for the BBC Philharmonic/Hallé Shostakovich Festival.

Violist Fiona Petersen has been a member of the BBC Philharmonic for 5 years. She studied at the Royal Northern College of Music gaining a Bachelor of Music and a Postgraduate Diploma. She has worked with several chamber groups and in music education. Cellist Jessica Burroughs has performed with many of the leading orchestras and holds a position with the BBC Philharmonic. She has also recorded for BBC Radio 3, Classic FM, EMI and Sony.
