Note: Cherubini’s portrayal of the tragic figure of Medea, long recognised as one of the most spectacularly demanding roles in the operatic repertoire, is undertaken this evening by the virtuoso soprano Eilana Lappalainen. This fascinating concert, conducted by Peter Tiboris, is completed by Tchaikovsky’s most triumphant symphony.
