Programme
:
Carl Maria von Weber
1:
Overture to 'Der Freischütz'
Robert Schumann
2:
Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A minor, Op 54
Johannes Brahms
3:
Symphony No 2 in D, Op 73
Note:
Brahms’ sunniest and ultimately most brilliant symphony is paired with the most familiar concerto by Schumann, with whom Brahms enjoyed a close, if ambivalent relationship. At the piano is the amazing 15 year old prodigy Kit Armstrong, endorsed by Alfred Brendel as a brilliantly gifted musician of exceptional promise. The concert opens with Weber’s Overture to his seminal opera, Der Freischultz.
