Note: Brahms’ sunniest and ultimately most brilliant symphony is paired with the most familiar concerto by Schumann, with whom Brahms enjoyed a close, if ambivalent relationship. At the piano is the amazing 15 year old prodigy Kit Armstrong, endorsed by Alfred Brendel as a brilliantly gifted musician of exceptional promise. The concert opens with Weber’s Overture to his seminal opera, Der Freischultz.
