Note: Songs from Hugo Wolf's Mörike Lieder preface the four songs of Judith Weir's The Voice of Desire. The cycle takes its title from the first song, about nightingales, to words by Robert Bridges. Birdsong underlies all the songs, in the text or in the piano, in poems by a Yoruba huntsman, Thomas Hardy and John Keats, uttered by a blue cuckoo, a thrush and a dove. The programme ends with Graham Coatman's Confessions, subtitled Four Fantastical Songs, in a more or less cabaret style.

There will be a retiring collection to defray administration costs.
