Where: Cadogan Hall, London
Concert Title: Tchaikovsky Gala
Performers: José Serebrier, conductor
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Nicolas Koeckert, violin
Programme :Pyotr Tchaikovsky
1:Andante Cantabile (arr. Serebrier), Op 11
2:Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D, Op 35
3:Symphony No 4 in F minor, Op 36
Note: This concert displays the gamut of emotions of which Tchaikovsky was capable, be it the deep eloquence of the Andante Cantabile – one of those indelible 100 best tunes that moves the soul – the elegance and panache of the Cossack-dancing Violin Concerto, or the fate-driven Symphony No 4, which opens with a tremendous summons from the brass, heralding a roller-coaster journey of struggle and triumph. This is music of power, beauty and passion, balletic lightness too, the Symphony ending with a grandstand testimony to human endeavour, all tailor-made for the exuberant and dramatic conducting style of José Serebrier.
